Ah Yeah.

Final for the cover.  I tweaked and designed little doo dads to make the cover more EC.  I am pretty well satisfied with the final product. I'm looking forward to seeing the final up on Amazon.

I didn't design the logo, but it feels right in context of the book being an homage. Lot's of fun all around. I'll keep you in the loop for when it drops, since if you read this (all four of you) then you are part of a special crowd.  ELITE.

Edit:  I forgot to add the cover image which I was paying homage to.

Variations

Spoke to my client yesterday and he asked if I could change the color scheme.  Cat also said she thought it would even more amusing if the zombie had less hair.  I agreed and presented a quick mock up to the client, who went for it.

So here are both variations, the alt color scheme the client asked for has the slimy speech bubble as well which I have to rework.

Original Variation:

Alternate (Client Approved):

So now I just need to tweek and clean up the color more/refine some areas, then add in the large crimson bar across the top where the Logo will go.

It's been fun, makes me want to do more work in this vein, I guess we'll see what the future will bring.

Bleeeeearrrrgh.

I ended up working back into the drawing a bit more, which is good it need a bit more refining, even though I have to turn this over quick.  There was just too much going on behind the pair.

So here's where we're at with the color.  I'll likely do another variation for the client, but all is progressing well.  I'd love to add some textural effects to give it a feeling of age (thanks Shock Totem), but I don't want to ruin the clarity.

It's keeping the feeling of an homage to the Chamber of Chills cover, which is good.  It's good to have a chance to work on something like this.

Stay tuned if you wish for the final version, which may or may not have a slimy speech bubble.

Workin' Workin'

Well, well, well....

I said I'd post the WIP for the cadaver assault.  Soooo here you go.

And the (mostly) finished drawing...

I'll start posting color WIPS if this is approved.

So over the last few days a number of interesting things of happened.

Most importantly my good friends Jamie and Daria saw the arrival of their second son Tai Decker. Congrats guys. I'd post pictures but that would be creepy since I'm not into enabling pedophiles and infantophiles (if you are offended by that then please kill yourself) besides Tai is a cute larva and your eyes are unworthy.

I will however post some sketches from the project I'm working on.  I have the lovely opportunity to do an homage to the EC comics of old and that's good, since (thanks to my uncle) I pretty much ate, drank, and breathed that crap for a bit of my childhood.

We are going with the top sketch, which is cool since there is a cover from Chamber of Chills that I was thinking of when I was working these out.

I'll have a few more to post for ha-has, and I'll make sure to put up WIPs as I go a long.

FACES OF POE (or how I learned to beat a dead horse)

So for various reasons. I decided to do a quick series of Poe sketches from that oft utilized portrait (read "oft utilized" as beaten into the ground) of the scribe.  I set myself a time limit of an hour per sketch.

They ran about 40 minutes on average, excepting the rotting Poe thanks to Robert J. Duperre and beer.
